New Organisation !
The Chester Canal Heritage Trust has been formed by a small group of people who are interested in the history and workings of the waterways in the Chester area. They would like to ensure that the part the canal played in the history of Cheshire is recorded and tells the unique story for school children and other community groups, to ensure that the story of the canal is remembered in history. To achieve this they are developing educational materials for schools/groups and creating an archive of information. The story of the canal will be presented in a range of media for use in schools, exhibitions and presentations.

Chester Cycle Hire
Chester successfully won a £2.4 million pound bid of funding for cycling initiatives over the next three years from the Cycling Demonstration Towns Project. Cheshire County Council and Chester City Council made a joint bid to win this funding in which half the highway authorities in England also submitted bids and detailed plans.
The project will give Chester and the other 17 demonstration towns selected, a share of the largest investment in cycling the country has ever seen, almost £100 million pounds. The money will transform these nominated towns into areas where cycling becomes a genuine option, improving the local environment, city centre congestion and fitness of 2.5 million people.

Walking
The extended Baker Way (13 miles/21km, 5 hours plus stops) links the heart of Chester with Delamere Forest Park. The core of the route is provided by the original Baker Way - a long established route from Christleton to Brines Brow picnic area. The original route was devised by members of the Mid Cheshire Footpaths Society and commemorates the life and work of Jack Baker, one-time footpaths officer for Cheshire County Council. The extended Baker Way provides links to bus and train services at both ends, allowing the route to be walked in either direction without the use of a car,
